Most new dictation apps are built the same way: take an open-source model, wrap it in a nice interface, and put in a paywall. Onit is different. The real magic isn't the transcription itself, it's the layer of cleanup that follows.
We’ve invested heavily in our cleanup pipeline. We've trained our own cleanup models and made them small enough to run locally on your Mac or iPhone, fast enough that you'll never have to wait. Onit fixes things that raw transcripts get wrong, like:
• Filler word removal — "I've been, uh, working on..." → "I've been working on..."
• Number formatting — "three hundred forty six" → "346"
• Email formatting — "tim three three at example site dot org" → [email protected]
• Punctuation — "Hello exclamation mark" → "Hello!"
• Lists, headings, and more — all hands-free
Since there are no cloud infrastructure costs, we decided to make it free. And no, we aren’t collecting and selling your data. We plan to introduce paid features in the future (or, if all else fails, sell to enterprise), but we’re committed to keeping the core dictation feature free forever for our earliest users.
